He was a key figure in the early days of national astronautics, serving as a corresponding member of the International Academy of Astronautics, a professor, and a Doctor of Technical Sciences. He led the Department at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and was the founder of the Jet Propulsion Research Institute (GIRD). Additionally, he held a leadership role at the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute in 1968 and collaborated closely with Sergey Korolev.
