Farman Salmanov (July 28, 1931 - March 31, 2007) was a notable Azerbaijani geologist recognized for his discovery of oil and gas deposits in Western Siberia during the 1960s. His contributions significantly advanced the economic development of Russia. Known as the 'father of Siberian oil,' Salmanov was a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and was awarded the Honor of Socialist Labor in 1996. Born in Azerbaijan, he gained prominence for his geological discoveries, which have continued to be acknowledged, including naming an oil feature after him in 2019.
