Farouk Al-Kasim is an Iraqi-Norwegian geologist born in 1934 in Basra, Iraq, known for his pivotal role in exploring oil in Norway. He studied petroleum geology at Imperial College in London and worked for the Iraq Petroleum Company. After moving to Norway in 1968 for his son's treatment, he joined the Norwegian Ministry of Trade and Industry. He contributed significantly to the establishment of the Norwegian oil industry, including the creation of the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate and Statoil in 1972, and enhanced extraction rates, achieving a 45% average.
