He initially attended the Military Technical Institute but chose to resign from military life to pursue a career in the arts. His music is influenced by Alexandrian folk music. He has composed soundtracks for several films such as 'Tair Fi Al-Sama' (1988), 'Crystal' (1993), and 'Alexandria New York' (2004), as well as music for theatrical plays like 'Al-Mahr' (1989) and 'Hazmini Ya' (1992). His brother is composer Salah El Sharnoby.
