Father John D’Amico, born John Aloysius D’Amico on June 20, 1939, in Philadelphia, was an American jazz pianist and composer active in the Philadelphia jazz scene. He began playing piano at age six and embraced jazz at seventeen. After his studies at St. Joseph’s University and St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, he was ordained a priest in 1966. He later left the priesthood to marry Kathleen in 1969. D'Amico performed as a soloist and with his trio, composed over 45 pieces, and taught at local universities, earning the John Coltrane Award in 1989. He passed away on October 31, 2013.
