Fathima Beevi was an eminent Indian judge, who made history as the first woman to be appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of India on October 6, 1989. After her retirement, she served as a member of the National Human Rights Commission. Fathima Beevi also held the position of the Governor of Tamil Nadu from 1997 to 2001. Her contributions to justice and human rights were recognized with several accolades, including the Kerala Prabha Award in 2023, and she received the Padma Bhushan posthumously in 2024.
