Felipe González Márquez is a Spanish lawyer, professor, and politician, best known for serving as the Secretary-General of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) from 1974 to 1997 and as the Prime Minister of Spain from 1982 to 1996. He is notable for being the longest-serving democratically elected Prime Minister of Spain. González joined PSOE in 1964 during the Francoist regime and later led his party to victory in several general elections, establishing a majority government and shaping Spain's transition to democracy after Franco's death.
