Ferdinand van Altena (1936-2006) was a Dutch choreographer and the co-founder of the folk dance group Terpsichore, which evolved into the Internationaal Danstheater under his leadership. He was known for his extensive knowledge of various folk dance forms. Van Altena transformed a group of amateur dancers into a leading professional ensemble, attracting over 80,000 visitors annually in the Netherlands. Throughout his career, he received numerous accolades and was respected as a dance festival juror worldwide. He faced several personal tragedies before succumbing to cancer in 2006.
