Fernando J. Corbató is an American computer scientist born on July 1, 1926. He is renowned for his contributions to computer science, notably as a recipient of the Turing Award in 1990. Corbató earned a bachelor's degree in physics from Caltech in 1950 and a PhD from MIT in 1956. He served at the MIT Computation Center from 1956 to 1966 and was a professor until his retirement in 1996. He was a founding member of the Mac project, which developed the Compatible Time-Sharing System (CTSS), a pioneering time-sharing computer system. His seminal work laid foundations for modern computing.
