Fernando Macotela Vargas is a Mexican cultural manager, teacher, and writer born in Mexico City on October 6, 1938. He served as the General Director of Cinematography and the National Cinematheque, overseeing its reconstruction after a fire in 1982. He has produced over 20 films through state production companies and was a jury member at the Berlin and Trieste International Film Festivals. From 1990 to 1996, he was the Secretary for Cultural Affairs at the Italian-Latin American Institute in Rome and has taught cultural and cinematic studies at various universities.
