Fernando Marías Franco, born in Madrid on December 14, 1949, is a Spanish art historian and academic at the Royal Academy of History since 2012. He specializes in Spanish art of the 16th and 17th centuries, with a focus on El Greco and Diego Velázquez. He comes from an intellectual family, being the son of philosopher Julián Marías and writer Dolores Franco Manera, and brother to writer Javier Marías. He earned his degree in art history at the Autonomous University of Madrid in 1971 and a doctorate in philosophy and letters from Complutense University in 1978.
