Filaret (born Mykhailo Denysenko) is a prominent Ukrainian Orthodox cleric, officially known as the Patriarch of Kyiv and All Ukraine and Russia. He was born on January 23, 1929, in the village of Blahodatne, eastern Ukraine. Filaret has served as the third shepherd of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Kyiv Patriarchate) and has held the title of Patriarch of Kyiv and All Russia and Ukraine since 1995. He has played a significant role in the religious landscape of Ukraine, particularly in the context of its independence and the Orthodox Church's structures.
