He served in the US Marines and helped create top-secret coded messages that aided in winning battles in the Pacific. After the war, he opened Begaye's Corner trading post in Chinle, Arizona, which expanded to include various services. Begaye was married to Helen and had three children. He was honored by President Trump and passed away on May 10, 2019, at the age of 97.
