Lentfer was relieved from duty on April 3, 2024, amid a scandal involving the frigate F361 Iver Huitfeldt, as Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen lost confidence in him. Reports suggest he was already facing dismissal due to issues related to the procurement and delays of missile launchers in the Elbit case. He was succeeded by Major General Michael Hyldgaard and became a Knight of the Order of Dannebrog in 2013.
