Flocke is a female polar bear born in captivity at the Nuremberg Zoo in Germany on December 11, 2007. Shortly after birth, she was separated from her mother due to safety concerns and raised manually by zookeepers. Her arrival garnered media attention, especially after a similar bear named Knut. She made her public debut on April 8, 2008, and quickly became a media sensation. The zoo commercialized her image and appointed Akim Steiner as her official sponsor to raise awareness about global warming. In late 2008, another polar bear named Rasputin was introduced to her for social development. Both were later moved to Marineland in France in April 2010.
