He rose through the ranks from 1930 as a second lieutenant to colonel by 1957, serving various roles including head of the personnel department of the Air Force Staff and commander of the Central Schools of the Air Force. Ripa was also a member of the Home Guard Council. He was married twice and had one daughter and an adopted son.
