Fonoti Matautia Ioane (John) Brown was a prominent Western Samoan chief, businessman, and politician. Born on 17 February 1901, he was active in the Legislative Assembly during the late 1940s and 1950s, holding positions in Agriculture and Health. Beyond politics, he was a successful merchant owning a bakery, a plantation, and cattle. He served as president of the Fono of Faipule and made notable attempts to claim the Mata'afa title. After health issues led to his political retirement in 1957, he later contested elections in 1964 but lost. Ioane passed away in October 1974.
