Forrest S. McCartney was a United States Air Force lieutenant general and the fourth director of NASA's John F. Kennedy Space Center. He was born in Fort Payne, Alabama, in 1931 and graduated from Gulf Coast Military Academy. McCartney earned a Bachelor's in electrical engineering and a Master's in nuclear engineering. He contributed significantly to the CORONA program and served as Kennedy Space Center's director from 1986 to 1991. He passed away on July 17, 2012, in Palm Bay, Florida.
