He played professionally in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles during the early 1940s, specifically from 1940 to 1941. Watkins was drafted in the 15th round of the 1940 NFL Draft and previously played college football for the West Texas A&M Buffaloes. Additionally, he served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. His life came to an end on December 29, 2002.
