Fotios Zaharoglou is a Greek computer scientist born on April 9, 1963, in Thessaloniki. He earned his degree in Electrical Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1986 and later obtained a Master’s degree from Caltech in 1987. Zaharoglou completed his Ph.D. at the University of California, San Diego, in 1993 under Michael Saks, focusing on distributed data structures and wait-free computation. In 2004, he won the Gödel Prize alongside Maurice Herlihy, Nir Shavit, and Michael Saks for their paper on the topology of public knowledge in distributed computing.
