Francisco García Escalero (May 24, 1954 - August 19, 2014) was a serial killer known as 'el matamendigos' or 'the beggar killer'. Active in Spain, he practiced necrophilia and cannibalism. In 1996, the Provincial Court of Madrid confirmed his involvement in the murders of 11 people, but he was deemed not criminally responsible due to mental illness, specifically schizophrenia and alcoholism. Consequently, he was acquitted of criminal charges and committed to a psychiatric penitentiary in Alicante.
