Francisco Manoel Chaves, also known as Preto Chaves, Zé Francisco, or Velho Chico, was a former sailor and guerrilla fighter in the Araguaia Guerrilla during the Brazilian Military Dictatorship. He spent much of his adult life in hiding and died in a military trap during a jungle combat in 1972. His remains have never been returned to his family, and there are no official documents confirming his burial location, marking him as a politically disappeared person.
