He had a controversial career, including business dealings with the dictator of Equatorial Guinea, Francisco Macías Nguema. He gained notoriety for infiltrating the Basque terrorist group ETA by selling them missiles with tracking devices. Following a warrant for his arrest, he faked his death in 1998 but was later discovered living in France under a false identity. Paesa passed away on May 3, 2023, near Paris, leaving behind a complex legacy of espionage and deceit.
