François Hammer is a French astrophysicist born on November 19, 1958. He has been an astronomer at the Paris Observatory since 1987 and previously worked with the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope in the early 90s. Hammer is known for his contributions to gravitational lensing, cosmology, and the structure of galaxies. He played a key role in the development of the Giraffe spectrograph at the Very Large Telescope in 2002 and was also an investigator for the X-shooter spectrograph implemented in 2009.
