Frank Bainimarama, born on April 27, 1954, is a Fijian politician and former naval officer who served as the Prime Minister of Fiji from 2007 to 2022. He founded the FijiFirst party in 2014. Bainimarama began his career in the Fijian Navy in 1975 and rose through the ranks, ultimately becoming the Commander of the Fijian military in 1999. He led a coup in 2006, deposing Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase. After promising elections in 2014, his party won the elections, and he served a second term until losing power in 2022. He has been the Leader of the Opposition since December 24, 2022.
