He was appointed as a Cabinet Minister under Premier Gary Filmon and was known for advocating dual marketing against the Canadian Wheat Board’s monopoly. Originally a government employee, Pitura also worked as a farmer. He was elected in 1995 and re-elected in 1999, before retiring in 2003. Pitura managed flood protection efforts in Ste. Agathe during his term. He was born on October 24, 1943, and passed away on February 16, 2019.
