Frank Scott Hogg was a prominent Canadian astronomer born on July 26, 1904, in Preston, Ontario. He earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Toronto and a doctorate in astronomy from Harvard University in 1929, where he focused on spectrophotometry and comet spectra under the guidance of Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin. During WWII, he created a two-star sextant for navigation. Hogg served as the head of the Department of Astronomy at the University of Toronto and directed the David Dunlap Observatory, where he investigated the motions of faint stars until his death on January 1, 1951.
