Frank R. Thompson, Jr. (October 26, 1918 – February, 1983) was an American Negro league pitcher known for his time with the Birmingham Black Barons, Homestead Grays, and Memphis Red Sox from 1945 to 1954. Nicknamed 'Groundhog', he had remarkable skills, particularly his fastball and curve. His small stature and distinctive appearance endeared him to fans. Thompson was selected as the starting pitcher for the 1952 East–West All-Star Game, showcasing his talent and prominence in the league.
