Over a span of 40 years, he worked as a university professor, research engineer, and entrepreneur. Notably, he co-developed ALOHANET with Norman Abramson at the University of Hawaii from 1969 to 1972. He has authored eight books and has held various roles, including serving as a US Defense Department manager and an Internet advisor in China.
