Franz Malec is a German paleontologist born in 1939, known for his work in mammalogy and entomology. His research focuses on small mammals and the study of fossil insects. During the 1960s and 1970s, he collaborated with prominent German paleontologists such as Tobien, Storch, and Dieter Kock. Since the 1980s, he has worked more independently, shifting his focus to fossil insects. He currently serves as the curator of the zoological collection at the Naturkundemuseum im Ottoneum Kassel, a position he has held since 1977, and has been the director since 1984.
