Fred Wallace Haise (born November 14, 1933) is a former American NASA astronaut, a Marine Corps aviator, and a test pilot. He is one of only 12 people who have flown to the Moon without landing on it. He was intended to be the sixth person to walk on the Moon during the Apollo 13 mission, but due to technical issues, the landing did not occur. Haise was also part of the backup crews for Apollo 8 and Apollo 11 and was set to fly on Apollo 19, which was canceled. He was involved in the Space Shuttle program and retired from NASA in 1979.
