Fredie Blom was a South African claimed supercentenarian born on 8 May 1904. He lived through significant historical events, including the Spanish flu pandemic, and spent most of his life working as a labourer during apartheid. Despite being illiterate, he managed to count and worked in the construction sector, retiring after age 80. Blom claimed to be the oldest man alive until his death at age 116 on 22 August 2020, shortly after his birthday, which was recognized during the COVID-19 pandemic. He had three children and died in Tygerberg Hospital, Cape Town.
