Freya Mathews is an Australian environmental philosopher known for her work in ecological metaphysics and panpsychism. Her interests include ecological civilization, indigenous perspectives on sustainability, critiques of modern metaphysics, wildlife ethics, and rewilding, particularly in the Anthropocene context. She has taught at Australian universities since 1979 and is currently an Adjunct Professor of Environmental Philosophy at La Trobe University. Mathews has authored several books and over seventy articles in the fields of ecological philosophy, ethics, and politics, and also manages a biodiversity reserve in northern Victoria.
