Friedemann Schrenk is a German paleoanthropologist born on July 18, 1956, in Stuttgart. He is notable for his role in the discovery of the fossilized jawbone UR 501 in Uraha, Malawi, in 1991, which was identified as a 2.4 million-year-old specimen of the species Homo rudolfensis. This discovery, published in the journal Nature in 1993, was significant as it was considered the oldest known representative of the genus Homo until the fragment LD 350-1 was described in March 2015.
