Fritz Wilhelm Winckel was an Austrian-German acoustician born on June 20, 1907, in Bregenz, and passed away on August 13, 2000, in Goslar. He studied telecommunications and acoustics at the Technical University of Berlin from 1927 to 1932. A pioneer in electronic music, he developed the Neo-Bechstein grand piano with Walther Nernst and contributed to television technology. After WWII, he focused on experimental voice research and wrote his Habilitationsschrift in 1951. Winckel played a key role in establishing a diploma sound engineering program and co-founded the Working Group for Electronic Music at his university's electronic music studio.
