Fundi Konde was a pioneering Kenyan musician known for being one of the first popular performers and the first electric guitarist in East Africa. He incorporated Swahili lyrics and a blend of local rhythms with rumba. His career took off during World War II while entertaining East African troops. Notable recordings include "Mama Sowera" and "Jambo Sigara". He performed actively until 1963, before retiring and returning to music in the early 1980s. Konde was born in Kilifi District and passed away in 2000.
