G. E. M. Anscombe was a British analytical philosopher born on March 18, 1919, and died on January 5, 2001. She was a student of Ludwig Wittgenstein and became responsible for much of his published work, including translating and editing several of his writings. Her contributions primarily focused on the philosophy of mind, philosophy of action, philosophical logic, philosophy of language, and ethics. Notably, her 1958 essay 'Modern Moral Philosophy' introduced the term consequentialism to analytic philosophy and had a significant impact on contemporary virtue ethics. Her study of intentionality is regarded as her most influential work.
