Gopi K. Podila was an Indian-American biologist known for his role as a professor at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He served as the chairperson of the biological sciences department and had a keen interest in the ecology of Populus species and their mycorrhizal symbionts. Tragically, his career was cut short when he was one of three faculty members killed in a mass shooting at the university on February 12, 2010.
