Govinthan Karunakaran, commonly known as Jana, is a Sri Lankan Tamil politician born on October 1, 1963. He was previously a provincial councillor and a Member of Parliament. He became involved with the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization after leaving school due to the Black July riots in 1983. Karunakaran rose through the ranks to become TELO's regional leader and later its general-secretary. He has contested multiple elections, and was elected to the parliament both in 1989 and again in 2020, under the Tamil National Alliance.
