Gaëtan Dugas (February 20, 1953 – March 30, 1984) was a Canadian flight attendant known for being one of the first identified individuals with HIV/AIDS in the United States. He was controversially referred to as 'patient zero' or the primary case linked to the spread of AIDS in the U.S. His case highlighted the growing epidemic in the 1970s and contributed to the stigma surrounding the disease. Dugas's diagnosis and the misconceptions surrounding it played a significant role in the early narratives surrounding the AIDS crisis.
