Niang has an extensive educational background, having studied in Koulikoro, Bamako, Dakar, and Sorbonne, specializing in English language and literature. She served as the Minister of Information and Telecommunications in Mali from 1980 to 1988, contributing to the launch of television broadcasts in the country. Niang retired in 1997 and received the Knight of Mali award in 1981.
