Galindo Mellado Cruz (1973-2014) was a Mexican suspected drug lord known as El Mellado or Z-9 and a founder of Los Zetas. He served in the Mexican Army's elite special forces before joining the Gulf Cartel in 1999. Mellado Cruz helped establish Los Zetas as the military wing of the Gulf Cartel. Following their split in 2010, he aligned with the Gulf Cartel, opting for a more discreet role. He was killed in a shootout with security forces in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, on May 9, 2014.
