Staples was an American Republican politician born on January 16, 1940, who served in the Mississippi House of Representatives from 1988 to 1992 and again in 2004 representing the 88th District. He was defeated by Ramona Blackledge in the Republican primary runoff in 2019. Staples was educated at the University of Southern Mississippi and Jones County Junior College. He worked for BellSouth and passed away from cancer on January 2, 2021, at the age of 80.
