Gayla Rienette Peevey, born on March 8, 1943, in Oklahoma City, is an American former singer and child star. She gained fame at age 10 with her recording of the novelty song "I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas" in 1953. Peevey later performed under the name Jamie Horton, achieving a minor hit in 1960 with "My Little Marine," which peaked at #84 on Billboard's Hot 100. Despite also recording the song "Robot Man," it did not chart. Peevey's early contributions to music have made her a memorable figure from the era.
