Geerd Diercksen is a German theoretical chemist and a pioneer in computer chemistry. He was born on March 25, 1936, in Hannover. Diercksen completed his doctorate in 1963 under Heinz-Werner Preuß at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main and obtained his habilitation in Chemistry at the Technical University of Munich in 1973. He was appointed an extraordinary professor there in 1983. From 1965 to 2001, he worked as a scientific collaborator at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics in Garching and has been an associate scientific collaborator at the institute since 2001.
