He competed in two Olympic Games, winning a gold medal in the marathon at Seoul 1988 but did not finish the marathon in Barcelona 1992. He earned a bronze medal at the 1987 World Athletics Championships in Rome and secured two European Marathon Championships in Stuttgart 1986 and Split 1990. Bordin also achieved significant victories in notable marathons, including the Boston Marathon in 1990, and set the Italian marathon record from April 18, 1988, to April 13, 1997.
