She was born on January 17, 1910, in Viipuri, Finland, and later moved to Sweden. Her parents were conductor Leo Funtek and Bertha Constance Liljeström. She was married to Helge Herolf Snellman. Funtek-Snellman made significant contributions to Swedish-language children's literature until her passing on August 27, 1996.
