Genchi Hisamoto (1903-1976) was a Japanese composer and musician born in Shimane Prefecture. He lost his sight at 5 and graduated from the Tokyo School for the Blind. He studied traditional Japanese music under Shouin Hagioka and was mentored in piano and vocal music by Eikichi Funabashi. He worked as a teacher at the Tokyo School for the Blind and later became a professor at Tokyo University of Education. His contributions to the new wave of Japanese music, known as New Japanese Music, were significant, and he was the first to perform using braille music scores.
