Gendün Rinpoche (1918-1997) was a prominent Lama of the Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. After dedicating over thirty years to meditation in Tibet and India, he was sent to Dordogne, France, by the 16th Karmapa in 1975. There, he established four Dhagpos and took on their spiritual leadership at the Karmapa's request, ensuring the continuity and authenticity of Dharma transmission in the West.
