Gene Cherico, born Eugene Valentino Cherico, was an American jazz double bassist and drummer, born on April 15, 1935, in Buffalo. After serving in the military and injuring his hand, he switched to double bass. He studied at Berklee College of Music and played with trumpeter Herb Pomeroy from 1957 to 1959. Cherico collaborated with notable musicians such as pianist Tošiko Akijoši and others including Gary Burton, Paul Desmond, Stan Getz, George Shearing, and Frank Sinatra throughout his career. He passed away on August 12, 1994, in Santa Monica.
